Parenting in Progress

I am the proud mother of a beautiful baby boy and the purpose of this blog is to record my experience of motherhood.

I'm suffering a bit from blog-fatigue at the moment and I'm not the only one, it seems to be doing the rounds.
However here's a catch-up on the light of my life - he's got teeth! Finally, two front teeth at the bottom, so far I've had no nasty experiences whilst b/f but I've been assured that will come when the top teeth come in!
He's changing all the time, he loves blowing raspberries on my neck, every day now he practices standing without holding onto anything and can last up to 25secs and I've finally got round to start teaching him sign language which he thinks is fun.

Here he is exploring the front garden

Now he goes to bed around 8pm and sleeps through to 8am. He naps mid-morning and also mid-afternoon for around one and a half hours each time.
He loves to feed himself and his favorite food at the moment is cottage cheese sandwiches which I give to him cut into little triangles. He's doing well in everyway - eats well, sleeps well and he's never even had nappy rash, I get the feeling that I have a pretty easy time of it with him.

Here he is playing the drum with daddy, Sorley loves music and wobbles about in a wee dance when we put music on.

And here trying out the hat daddy bought him for winter, yes I know the bib looks pretty manky!

Lastly, playing with daddy's new and very weird ceramic drum, still wearing the hat, poor kid!

Tonight for the first time Sorley pulled himself into a standing position without leaning on anything. Not long till this boy's walking!

9 months old

The days of the jolly jumper are numbered!
Sorley's getting bored of his door swing. It's a good job I captured on film the spinning moments when I did because now he's not much interested in hanging in our doorway, preferring the freedom to crawl about and explore the livingroom and practice standing by himself.

That's him now 9 months old. Got his length measured the other day and he's verging on the 98th percentile which means out of a hundred boys born the same time as him, he'll be the 2nd or 3rd tallest - he is 73 and a half cm. I certainly already knew he was a tall boy as he's in 12-18 month bodysuits!

He eats well, last month when my cousin was visiting with her little girl we all went out to dinner. I ordered a kids meal for Sorley which was fishfingers, potatoes and beans, mashed it all up for him and he eat around three/quarters of the entire meal! If I'm eating out for lunch I order a baked potato and tuna because Sorley adores it and I can share it with him but now I'm going to have to order a separate meal for him because these days all I get to eat is the potato skin and salad!

He's being saying mum and muma for a while now and is just about getting the hang of 'dada'. He still comes out with the occasional 'madmum' and the other day 'dada' came out as 'dude', so mum and dad is now officially madmum and dude!

I was invited by the religious, moral and philosophical education department (in my day it was just RE!) at the local secondary school to give an introductory to moral philosophy talk to the fifth and sixth year higher class. I actually quite enjoyed it. I practiced my talk on Sorley but I'm not quite sure he was paying attention!

Here's a pic of Sorley with his big cousins one who is going into 2nd year uni, the other starting her 1st year at uni, and wee S who has just started primary school. It's nice to have this pic of them all together. And yes I know there's a weird looking monkey behind them!
